Sámi Nieida Jojk

Synopsis: Armed in Sámi clothing and with a summer course in the Sámi language, the director is determined to take this road trip to enter the world she longs for and wants to belong to. Liselotte is Sámi herself, but she neither learned the language nor grew up within the Sámi community. It's a compelling journey, filled with hope and anticipation — yet around the corner lurk fears of rejection and exclusion.

The documentary storytelling, interwoven with imaginative animation and rhythmic editing, conveys both a deep yearning for belonging and anxiety about the unknown. How Sámi is a City Sámi without reindeers, really? Will she be accepted in Sápmi?

Director’s Comment “The film is a personal perspective on the experiences I encounter. It is seen with my eyes, touched by my skin, projected through my pictures out to the world. I have now, with this film as a starting point, decided to get to know my roots so I’ll have to have the damn courage to SEE! If I find out that I don’t like what I meet, so be it. I might even be able to become Sami in my own way, without having to depend on their acceptance.” - Liselotte Wajstedt
